Prof. Sagar Sarkar completed his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in 2019, following his Dual Degree (B.Tech (Honours) and M.Tech) from the same institution in 2014. His broad area of research interest is in Laser Material Processing with a particular focus on Laser Additive Manufacturing, Online Process Monitoring and Control, AI and ML in Additive Manufacturing, and Fatigue and Fracture in Additive Manufacturing.
Dr. Sarkar has extensive academic and industrial experience, serving as a Senior Scientific Officer at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, from June 2019 to June 2021, and currently as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Delhi, since June 2021. He has made significant contributions to the field through his research, with selected publications in renowned journals such as Materials Science & Engineering A, Additive Manufacturing, ASME Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, and Surface and Coatings Technology.
He has also been part of several indigenous developments, including the development of a metal 3D printer and system for laser-assisted cold spray. His work investigates various aspects of laser-based additive manufacturing processes and their effects on mechanical properties and fatigue life, contributing to advancements in materials science and engineering.
